LIGO MOU FTE % Guidelines
Please use the following four examples (by Albert Lazzarini) to
understand the FTE% interpretation:
1.
A scientist working full time on R&D, 1/3 dedicated to
Initial LIGO and 2/3 Advanced LIGO:
Research FTE%: 100 LIGO FTE%:
33 AdLIGO FTE%: 67
2.
A scientist working full time on R&D, 1/3 on Swift, 1/3
dedicated to Initial LIGO and 1/3 Advanced LIGO:
Research FTE%: 100 LIGO FTE%:
33 AdLIGO FTE%: 33
3.
A faculty member teaching 50% and working 50% on R&D:
1/4 dedicated to Initial LIGO and 3/4 Advanced LIGO:
Research FTE%: 50 LIGO FTE%:
25 AdLIGO FTE%: 75
4.
A faculty member teaching 33% and working 67% on
R&D: 1/2 on LISA, 1/2 dedicated to Initial LIGO:
Research FTE%: 67 LIGO FTE%:
50 AdLIGO FTE%: 0
Notes:
Here are the
basics of qualification for authorship:
* The basic standard for authorship is that
someone has committed 50% or more
of his/her AVAILABLE RESEARCH TIME to LSC-related work. (This is
intended to
account for the varying demands that are placed on different
researchers at
different institutions. This is important for faculty members,
especially at
institutions with large teaching loads.) To qualify for the author
list, an
author should have been working at this level for at least one year.
* Exceptions to the 50% guideline can be made on the PI’s
recommendation for
meritorious contributions. In the past we have generally included group
PI's
for their meritorious contributions even if they work on LSC-related
work
substantially less than 50% of the time.
* Please be sure to include people who are no longer with your group,
but who
left less than one year ago.
<>Rules for appointing members of the
Council: (from paragraph
3.2 of LSC Bylaws) >
Each Group will appoint a number of members equal to
one plus one-fifth, truncated, of the number of full-time equivalent
members in
the Group’s current MOU. Collaboration Council members represent their
Group
and have the responsibility to discuss Council
issues with those
they represent. The Council membership will be updated with every
update of LSC
Group members, but in no case less often than once every 6 months. Each
Council
member is expected to attend most full LSC meetings; if this is not
possible, a
different delegate should be designated.
The statement on overall FTE
definition supersedes what is in the "roll-over" comments.
We sincerely hope that this new
system will save time for all of us. We would appreciate your feedback,
observations and suggestions.
Sincerely,
